annimax_metal Infectious melodies and well blended harmony vocals make this album quite a sonic adventure! The variety from song to song creates an unpredictable and engaging experience all the way through. This UK band caught my attention all the way from California, USA! Favorite track: Drifting Away.
Portobello Express (fan profile)
Portobello Express (fan profile) thumbnail
Portobello Express (fan profile) One of the best albums I bought in the last 15 years. Delicate, powerful, melancholic, romantic, sad, epochal. Lyrics, lead vocals, backing vocals, musicians: worth every penny. Not to be missed. Favorite track: Forever.

Second Storm 03:45
Life's running slowly backwards Or is it stuck in frame? Lying on my back like a heart attack There's no-one I can blame I got the will to live You'd better believe I'm standing still but I'm moving on So don't bother to grieve Time's just ticking by slowly Wish I could only drop everything and make it transform Making no gain, just standing in the rain and waiting Waiting for the second storm The order's been abandoned On deaf ears falls the plea After nine when the shrine had died Raining torture on me The deck and dice are loaded But the suits don't land I got a head full of magic And nothing in my hand Time's just ticking by slowly Wish I could only drop everything and make it transform Making no gain, just standing in the rain and waiting Waiting for the second storm Tomorrow came without me Now feels so far behind Can't get back what's coming Can't stop feeling confined Chest and brain are pounding Nightmares and dreams are drowned Don't lend me your commitment Just drop it on the ground The cliff has stopped its climbing The peak's still far away Contestant's far from ready This might take more than a day Brain screaming it's hopeless Can't see how I won't fall I'm gonna beat this burden If I have to crawl Time's just ticking by slowly Wish I could only drop everything and make it transform Making no gain, just standing in the rain and waiting Waiting for the second storm

Are you listening? I've looked everywhere for you I've been going out of my mind Looking for signs of you Can you hear me? It's been such a long long time I'm holding it all together But I'm straying off the line Are you watching Do you see what this has done I'm tormented by the silence There's nowhere left to run Can you see me? I look back at what I'm missing Your words of wise, no fake disguise Your understanding and your giving And in the whispers of the breeze the past calls me And the memories in my mind carry me away Like the leaves on the trees, I'm falling And riding on the breeze I'm drifting away It's been years Are you proud of what I've become Put the values that you taught me Into everything I've done I know you love me And to my children I will send But as I carry on without you Will this feeling ever end And in the whispers of the breeze the past calls me And the memories in my mind carry me away Like the leaves on the trees, I'm falling And riding on the breeze I'm drifting away And in the whispers of the breeze the past calls me And the memories in my mind carry me away Like the leaves on the trees, I'm falling And riding on the breeze I'm drifting away

Here we are, struggling to get along Once we were so happy, now everything's turned out wrong Come on lets walk, a beautiful day outside Come on lets talk and swallow all this pride Here we walk down the hot summer streets Hearing all those sweet, soft beats Like the beat of your heart running along Running along those hot summer streets Walking in the sun which shines upon your face You start to smile we start to slow the pace I hold your hand you turn to me, we laugh I hold you close then we wonder from the path Here we walk down the hot summer streets Hearing all those sweet, soft beats Like the beat of your heart running along Running along those hot summer streets We lie beneath a tree, shade blocks out the sun You on top of me, we're actually having fun Praise the day, it's really served us well I said I'm sorry and you said you could tell Here we walk down the hot summer streets Hearing all those sweet, soft beats Like the beat of your heart running along Running along those hot summer streets

One Day 03:03
One day Whatever you're running from is going to find you When the back of your mind is gone and you can't run to The sound of your falling words and what you've come to And you know you can't reach the end (Ahh, ahh, ahh) I don't want to see no more (Ahh, ahh, ahh) What the hell we singing for? One day Whatever you're looking for is going to fade out From behind your closed eyes you're gonna reach out And take the hand you wanted but there's still doubt If it is the right thing to do (Aahh Aahh) I don't want to see no more (Aahh Aahh) What the hell we singing for? One day Recycled conversations are gonna end with The answer to your everlasting feeling That somewhere deep inside you know you're missing Whatever it is you lost (Ahh, ahh, ahh) I don't want to see no more (Ahh, ahh, ahh) What the hell we singing for? (Ahh, ahh, ahh) I don't want to see no more (Ahh, ahh, ahh) What the hell we singing for?

Forever 04:37
From the very moment I set eyes on you I knew, I knew And with one look you stole my heart away It's okay, its okay And from then on I saw my future rise Before my eyes And since we met we've come a long, long way And I'll say every day But until then love in my life had been unkind But when you came along you changed my state of mind I promise I'll be yours forever (forever) Will you be mine? Forever (forever) Yeah, I'll be yours forever (forever) 'Til the end of time together, forever As the years pass we've built one life from two And each day brings something new Walked side by side every step of the way It's okay you always say And you have made all of my dreams come true Yes I knew, yes I knew I can't imagine my life without you All because I need you And when I made my promise on that day in June I swear it feels like I can't breathe when you leave the room I promise I'll be yours forever (forever) Will you be mine? Forever (forever) Yeah, I'll be yours forever (forever) 'Til the end of time together, forever I'll be yours forever (forever) Will you be mine? Forever (forever) Yeah, I'll be yours forever (forever) For all time together (together) Always be yours forever (forever) Say you'll be mine forever (forever) 'Til the end of time together, forever

Tides 04:06
I remember true the first day I saw you You took my very breath away You were only passing through, I had no right to try to To try to make you stay A few months later though you were back to go And find a life round here I couldn't stop myself, took my heart off the shelf and Asked you out, it was quite clear The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes A few years had gone by, I had to ask you why Could you ever put up with me You said we all have chores, mind you despite your flaws No more happier could I be But one day darkness came, doc said no-one to blame but Your life would become quite hard Through my free flowing tears, you stayed calm with no fears And asked if I would just discard The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes A few more years have passed, I'll stay until the last We fight for every single day You're my hero still, won't stop our lives we fill With everything we want to say You said you'd marry me, in our tiny family We will always find a way The bull and the crab, both stubborn, both rather mad We'll be alright, we really may The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes The tide changes

Your World 04:15
Travelling through my world Is not what I hoped it would be Missing the call I can't hear A sign that I cannot see Living it day by day Forgetting the words to say Just wishing the time away Travelling through your world Looks like something I want for me Leaving a space between us So that you will always be free How do you see me now? I see you and wonder how Forgive me while I take my bow Biding my time Committing no crime I see Biding my time Travelling through our world And nothing I can feel I'm not really here with you This world was never real What do you want to be? What do you want from me? What is it like to be In your world?

When I sleep at night I dream of what could have been And how everything we know is upside down And you and I and others are stuck in between Of a life of what we knew was to come around There's a storm raging outside and it worries me But the falling rain brings comfort I have found But I'm safe and warm somewhere no-one can find me And I'll count the hours and days that come around The world is falling It’s looking like it's never gonna stop The world is calling And crying out for help before we drop Every day brings a new warning Spreading desperation fire and fear And with every single mourning I ask myself where will we go from here? Well they told us that one day we all would be free And the promises they made have been unfound But there doesn't seem to be a way for you and me And I'm waiting from that day to come around When I sleep at night I dream of what could have been And how everything we've known is upside down And you and I and others are stuck in between Of a life of what we knew was to come around The world is falling It’s looking like it's never gonna stop The world is calling And crying out for help before we drop Every day brings a new warning Spreading desperation fire and fear And with every single mourning I ask myself where will we go from here?

Possessed 04:21
So I walk down the street coming for you supposed to meet Yet all I do is stand around Hearing all the endless cries watching this city bustling by I'm listening to all the sounds Shouldn't rely on you You're always gone too soon Standing by the café now as if on stage to take a bow, A clock ticking the minutes 'til Feeling exposed, feel scrutinised, by all the people passing by As I await my fill Shouldn't rely on you You're always gone too soon, and... If you're not here by my side I'll lose myself I'll lose my mind If you're not here by my side I'll be gone too far for you to find Say something that makes me laugh Cause nothing ever lasts, Completely possessed by you The people passing me stop to turn they can clearly see The fire that is fuelling my stride Determined focus in my eyes my common sense desperately cries It's down to wounded pride Shouldn't rely on you You're always gone too soon It isn't healthy dear to want the way I want But it's the only drive I've ever known To need so restlessly, demanding passion endlessly This ugly side I've always shown Shouldn't rely on you You're always gone too soon, and... If you're not here by my side I'll lose myself I'll lose my mind If you're not here by my side I'll be gone too far for you to find Say something that makes me laugh Cause nothing ever lasts, Completely possessed by you I'd stand here locked in want 'til the Earth stopped turning and the sky did fall The smallest chance you might give me a call All that time took waiting some people would say what's the point in you? But no-one makes me feel the way you do You finally get here late don't seem to care you've made me wait You try to take my open hand You know I lose my way the tension really makes me pay You always seem to understand Always rely on you Even if you're gone too soon, but... If you're not here by my side I'll lose myself I'll lose my mind If you're not here by my side I'll be gone too far for you to find Say something that makes me laugh Cause nothing ever lasts, Completely possessed by you Completely possessed by you Completely possessed by you Completely possessed by you

You've finally got your liberty, your chance to test virility You're out at last, well yeah, but he just wants to talk and talk all night We're up here entertaining but you won't stop complaining To hear your friends, you're straining, not ideal place to reunite On stage we're feeling glorious, performance meritorious You sit still, so incurious, subtle mobile glance you've mastered So you just sit there streaming, your mind does naught but dreaming And all the while I'm screaming Oi! Look at us, you bastard! Hey! Look at us, you bastard! I'm on the stage adjacent, I'm feeling quite complacent My band and friends renascent, it's been so long but now we've returned It's not the same old story, this is no allegory Abandoned oratory, but put to use new skills we've learned We've had a go at rhyming, up my guitar neck climbing Our songs we're still refining, while you just sit there getting plastered A waste of time, this outing, you'll never watch, I'm doubting So I'll just stand here shouting Oi! Look at us, you bastard! Hey! Look at us, you bastard! Bastard... Bastard Bastard! BASTARD! Oi! Look at us, you bastard! Oi! Look at us, you bastard! Hey! Look at us, you bastard! Bastaaaaarrrrrd! Bastaaaaarrrrrd! Oi! Look at us, you bastard! (Bastard, bastarrd, bastaarrrddd...)

When I was young I could not find the words To play my guitar and stand in front of a crowd To play something different no-one had ever heard To play with confidence and play it loud And then life changed and drew me away Took me to a place where I’ve since stayed The time has come to make real the dream A second chance to make a change But I realised nothing is as it seemed It's something beautiful but something strange But I don't want money and I don't want fame I just want to show you I can play the game When the curtain comes down and the lights grow colder When there's nothing left to see When the love has gone and the show is over Will you remember me? Remember me There will come a point where all this has to stop And this is what I leave behind? When there's nothing left inside for me to drop Will my name stay in your mind? But I don't want fortune or post height fame? I want to be remembered, don't want to fade away When the curtain comes down and the lights grow colder When there's nothing left to see When the love has gone and the show is over Will you remember me? Remember me Don't forsake me or disregard me Don't overlook me or abandon me All my life I've had to be part of this Don't do me wrong, this is where I belong When the curtain comes down and the lights grow colder When there's nothing left to see When the love has gone and the show is over Will you remember me? When the curtain comes down and the lights grow colder When there's nothing left to see When the love has gone and the show is over Will you remember me? Remember me

Bumbling Man 02:38
So he's lying here under clear blue skies Not a single care, not a single why Just the sun on his face, and he lets out a sigh And he thinks Why don't we get more moments like this? Why don't we get more moments of bliss? Why do we have so much life to miss? And he thinks Are these the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man Doesn't really make a point, doesn't really think he can Just the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man As he goes about his day So he sits by a river and he listens to the sound Of the water flowing downstream and the world spinning around Just a man on his own in the peace that he's found And he thinks Why do we obsess over differences in Religion, orientation, and the colour of your skin There's got to be more to life like, well hmm, everything And he thinks Are these the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man Doesn't really make a point, doesn't really think he can Just the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man As he goes about his day Rambling (rambling) As much with his feet as he does with his speech (Oooohhh) Trains of thought travel at speed through his mind (Oooohhh) Trying to reach an end he's trying to find Searching (searching) As much for a truth as he does with his eyes (Oooohhh) Trying to get to his truth behind the lies So he drives back home to the city that he lives And to a packed daily commute that don't mean a thing to him To some broken bits of news from a dozen different views He doesn't think Just the same old thing from the same familiar faces He forgets to smell the trees and those lovely carefree places Unconcerned with being at peace, just the rat-race that he chases He doesn't think These are the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man Doesn't really make a point, doesn't really think he can Just the throw-away thoughts of the bumbling man As he goes about his day And that's how it's gonna stay

about

Twenty-Five Years is our debut album and so named because we got together in our first band (West Tangleyam) twenty-five years ago, in 1997. Some of the first singles we released as Storm of Crows were from that time (Upon Us, You Decide), so we thought the name was rather symbolic, although if anyone wants to think that's how old we are, that'd be fine too.

The songs on the album are mostly new tracks written for it, although a few were penned closer to the genesis of the band. Have a listen and see if you can work out which ones.

We hope you enjoy our album. We've certainly had a lot of fun making it, though we are looking forward to now taking a step back and relaxing whilst you all buy it and make us famous rock stars. Ta.

about

Storm of Crows Sheffield, UK

Storm of Crows is a rock band based in Sheffield and Stockport, in the UK. Originally in various bands at the end of the 1990s, we reformed during Covid lockdown in 2020 to record some of our old songs, and write a few new ones as well. We're not the best band in the world, but we're having a blast doing what what we're doing, and we think that comes across in our music. We hope you like it too. ... more
